What is genuinely recyclable
Clean concrete and asphalt become road base. Scrap metal has real resale value. Untreated wood can be chipped. Clean drywall can be reprocessed. Cardboard and clean fill are also easily diverted.
Source separation on site
Two or three dedicated containers usually divert more material at lower cost than one mixed can that gets sorted downstream. Metal in particular can offset its own hauling.
Documentation for reporting
Projects chasing LEED credits or municipal diversion targets need weight tickets by material. Request them at booking so the paperwork exists from the first haul.
Realistic expectations
A typical mixed C&D load diverts far less than a separated one. If diversion is a project goal, plan container real estate for it during site setup, not after.
